Abarax (benznidazol) Online

Abarax is an antibiotic that is used to treat Chagas disease in children ages 2 through 12 years. Chagas disease (also called American trypanosomiasis) is an infection caused by a parasite common to the areas of South America, Central America, and Mexico. Abarax was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on an “accelerated” basis. In clinical studies, some people responded to Abarax, but further studies are needed. Abarax may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Abarax Tablets are indicated in pediatric patients 2 to 12 years of age for the treatment of Chagas disease (American trypanosomiasis) caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. This indication is approved under accelerated approval based on the number of treated patients who became Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody-negative against the recombinant antigens of T. cruzi. Continued approval for this indication may be contingent upon verification and description of clinical benefit in confirmatory trials.

Benznidazol, the main drug of choice for treating Chagas disease, was only available in an adult-strength tablet. Infants and children were treated with divided or crushed adult tablets, which was complicated for caregivers and resulted in inconsistent dosing. The tablet dissolves easily so that treating young children is simpler. There is no need to divide tablets, except for low birth weight babies weighing less than 2.5 kg. The paediatric formulation improves dosing accuracy, safety, and adherence to treatment.
