O-Morphon (Oxymorphone) is used to relieve moderate to severe pain in people whose pain is not controlled with other medications. Oxymorphone is in a class of medications called opiate (narcotic) analgesics. It works by changing the way the body responds to pain. Oxymorphone (Oxymorphone), as with other opioid drugs, can produce tolerance, psychological dependence, and physical dependence and has the potential for being abused. The addiction potential of the drug appears to be about the same as for morphine.
Managing severe pain. Oxymorphone extended-release tablets are only for use when continuous (around-the-clock) treatment is needed for a long time. It is also only for use when other pain treatments do not treat your pain well enough or you cannot take them. It is NOT for use right after surgery if you have not already been using narcotic pain medicines, if you need only occasional or as-needed pain relief, or if the pain is mild or is not expected to last for a long time. Oxymorphone extended-release tablets are a narcotic (opioid) pain medicine. It works in the brain and nervous system to reduce pain. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take oxymorphone exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
