Biktarvy (Bictegravir Emtricitabine Tenofovie Alafenamide) is 3 antiretroviral medicines in 1 tablet. It is used to treat HIV. This medicine is not a cure for HIV. Bictegravir (Biktarvy), Emtricitabine (Biktarvy), and Biktarvy alafenamide combination is used alone to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. HIV is the virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Bictegravir (Biktarvy), Emtricitabine (Biktarvy), and Biktarvy alafenamide are usually given to patients who have yet to receive any medicine for their HIV infection or to patients to replace their current medicine provided that they meet certain requirements.

Bictegravir (Biktarvy), Emtricitabine (Biktarvy), and Biktarvy alafenamide combination will not cure or prevent HIV infection or AIDS. It helps keep HIV from reproducing and appears to slow down the destruction of the immune system. This may help delay problems that are usually related to AIDS or HIV disease from occurring. Bictegravir (Biktarvy), Emtricitabine (Biktarvy), and Biktarvy alafenamide will not keep you from spreading HIV to other people. People who receive Bictegravir (Biktarvy), Emtricitabine (Biktarvy), and Biktarvy alafenamide may continue to have other problems usually related to AIDS or HIV disease.

The combination of bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in certain adults and children weighing at least 55 pounds (25 kg) who have not received antiretroviral treatment in the past or who have been stable on other antiretroviral treatment(s). Bictegravir is in a class of medications called integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs). Emtricitabine and tenofovir are in a class of medications called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). The combination of bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir works by decreasing the amount of HIV in the body. Although bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir will not cure HIV, these medications may decrease your chance of developing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and HIV-related illnesses such as serious infections or cancer. Taking these medications along with practicing safer sex and making other lifestyle changes may decrease the risk of getting or transmitting the HIV virus to other people.
